Description

The 4-MAX was developed as a collaboration between Cold Steel and award winning custom knife maker Andrew Demko. It was produced with one clear goal in mind - to deliver a folding knife with the maximum strength and performance possible within a 4" blade limit. Bridging the gap between production knives and expensive custom offerings, the 4-Max is made to Andrew’s exact specifications and from the highest-grade materials. Its extra wide, drop point stonewashed blade is made from American made CPM 20CV steel, offering a near perfect balance between durability and edge holding performance.

ColdSteelThe 4-Max’s tumbled titanium liners and back spacers and Cool Grey 3-D CNC machined and bead blasted G-10 handle scales provide even greater degrees of strength! Equipped with the ground breaking Tri-Ad® locking mechanism, this knife is quite possibly the strongest production folder we have ever produced! The 4-MAX has passed every one of our grueling and torturous shock and impact tests, and then gone on to easily hold over 800 lbs of free hanging weight - with no damage! If you are looking for a highly collectible mega-folder made with the specifications, tolerances and materials normally only found on a luxury custom knife – then your search is over! Check out the 4-MAX today!

Awesome materials, great quality and a pretty beastly knife. Little heavy but, well worth it.

    Awesome XL knife

Great knife, beautiful & functional Demko design with the Triad lock. Love the size & balance of this knife, along with the Italian quality and CPM-20CV. The G10 is great, not too grippy, but has a beautiful wood-like pattern.

Amazing Knife - not made anymore with 20cv

Botach had the best prices and seemlingly only remaining inventory for this knife. The feeling of reliability, sturdiness and power this knife has just seems to be a cut above the rest. Its incredibly overbuilt and unless you are a fanatic survivalist or outdoorsman, you will never really use this knife beyond its capabiities. Blade is razor-sharp and can cut through thin newspaper like nobody's business. To keep it sharp you just need to strop.. It's not a perfect product however. I bought two (returned one but should have kept both) and both came with issues with the pivot screw being loose. You have to fool around with the tension on the screw to find the turn that will eliminate blade play while allowing it to fall reasonably. I opted for more tension to eliminate blade play but the blade doesn't fall nearly as easily. However, with enough flicks it seems to be getting easier while keeping blade play to zero. The blade is just a smidgeon off center folded. It doesn't bother me. The triad lock is extremely tough to disengage but it comes with the territory for this knife. The blade is CPM-20cv and its alot of premium steel for the price.. Overall, I think Botach just bought like the remaining inventory of 4maxs available; the inventory sat around for a couple of years and these knifes need break-in. they could be second run knives for all I know but for the price - 239 (Botach raised its priced to 299 / 350 on amazon for the last few dozen available), it can't be beat. there were 151 4maxs in September, now zero likely because of CS being sold. I don't suspect inventory to be readily available so i'm glad I purchased. Customer support is very mediocre but you don't come to Botach for customer service, Enjoy!!

    Cold Steel 4-Max

Very nice design, with tight lock-up and perfectly centered blade. Steel quality is high end and ground perfectly.

    First Impression

The knife is very attractive & appears well built. The G10 emulates wood like characteristics giving it a nicer appeal along with smooth edging. The high flat grind comes fairly sharp out of the factory but you can get it sharper, not that you need to. The Tri-Ad lock is strong with no vertical movement however there was very noticeable sideward play off the pivot. The factory might've felt it was a good balance to make it easier to flip open but I personally don't think it's a good idea for hard use. Using T10 & T6 bits I took it apart to properly lube it with Militec-1 along with eliminating the sideward mobility. FYI, the knife does come already pre-lubed with the factory lubricant around the pivot and washers. Overall craftsmanship in a production knife is exception with very tight tolerances - I was very happy about that. After re-torquing the sideward play is completely gone and the knife feels strong & solid. It's sizeable & heavy, not what you might expect in an EDC but if you don't mind the substantial heft, it's as solid as it gets with a folder. Only hot spot is the clip but not a big deal, there's a lot of handle to grip. I highly recommend it if you don't mind having probably one of the largest & strongest folders in the market.

    Cold Steel 62RN 4-Max

The 4-Max is better than anticipated. It cuts better than expected for such a large blade. I absolutely love it. The lock release is not quite as good as my AD10 but it’s better than my Recon 1. You have to push more towards the rear and a bit deeper but it’s not bad. This was my first ever purchase with Botach and it was perfect. Super fast shipping.

    Cold steel 4max

Bada$$ knife well made and solid as a rock with a fine steel blade. The CPM-20v grade is high end stuff that was my deciding factor when purchasing. G10 panels feel great in hand. A bit heavy but that’s what I like definitely a real man’s knife.
